The Power and the Passion
This year's York St John Business School's Annual Lecture was a joint affair. BIG Associate and Corporate Philosopher Professor Roger Steare brought 'The Power of Love in Business', sharing the platform with CEO for the City of York Council Kersten England and her ideals and vision for the practice of local democracy: 'Pride and Passion - local government in it's element'.

A packed lecture theatre enjoyed two very distinct, experienced and engaging talents with Kersten offering us a context for her vision of local governance; the challenges and balance to be struck within a representative and participatory democracy. And Roger's ideas for a new business order in the board room. Working with some of the globes largest multi national corporations who seek him out specifically for the clarity he brings; offering a practical ethos of care and ethics that get to the root of current commercial dysfunction.
Kersten England and Professor Roger Steare
Both Kersten and Roger addressed the question of what sort of community and business do we want to live and work in? And how a desire to care for and sustain our clients, community, environment and ourselves depends on our inate humanity, something which all too often gets left at home when we leave for work.
