Dolly Daydream first appeared in a song in the 1890s so she's been around doing what she does best for over a 100 years; man, however, has been doing it since time immemorial.
How many times over the years have I been called Dolly Daydream I wonder? First it was my mum, then my teacher, in fact any pupil caught staring out of the window bore the label, their thoughts having drifted off to more exciting pastures than the classroom had to offer.
Once thought of as lazy, daydreaming is now seen as a positive way to let the mind roam free without the constraints of the real world. A place to realise dreams and aspirations, letting the subconscious seep into the conscious, making anything possible.
Over the years I've found some of my best ideas have emerged from those daydreams. Sometimes what seems like the most difficult challenge can take a new turn by just letting go and not focusing on the obvious. I believe everyone, especially creatives, were born to daydream, that's how we as children originally bought our magic touch in to the world.
There's a Dolly in all of us... So once in a while embrace her and see where she takes you, you might be surprised.
