Moral DNA

by Roger Steare, in BIG Business

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Wrinkles, hair, spots?! All of these surface features are obvious. But how often do we look in the mirror and look deeper into our consciousness, our character and our soul?

Over the past two years, I have been working with psychologist Pavlos Stamboulides to develop a scientific tool to measure what we call Moral DNA. We now have over 40,000 results from people in over 160 countries and there is much that is good and universal in humanity. We are loving, wise and courageous. But we are also greedy and arrogant.

Our individual Moral DNA is unique. We now map it on 13 scales, with a score of 1-9 to 5 decimal places. That's a really BIG number! We are also analysing the data by gender, age, education, religion, politics, occupation, seniority and nationality. How are men and women different in the way we make moral choices? Do we think differently as we get older? Are people with religious faith more ethical than those without? Are socialists more ethical than liberals or conservatives? Are bankers and oil company executives really less moral?

I will be previewing some of the results in my upcoming evening seminar on October 6 at York St John University, co-sponsored with Forward Ladies and The Big Ideas Collective. So please try the test for yourself at www.ethicabilitytest.org and then come along to see the good, the bad and the ugly in our Moral DNA mirror.
