A "Corporate Philosopher in Residence" at the Cass Business School, London, people say that I have a really cool job title. . . And as well as being cool, it also nicely describes my work: thinking about Big Ideas.
These big ideas are also relevant, practical and grounded in the real world, because most of my time is spent working as a freelance consultant with a variety of organisations of all sizes, from mega-corporations like BP and HSBC, to political parties, public sector bodies, SMEs - and the Big Ideas Collective!
So what are my New Year Big Ideas?
- We need to move on from the banking and financial crisis and THINK about the real economy. And by the real economy, I mean the stuff that really counts like sustainable standards of living for all, including homes, meaningful work, decent education and healthcare.
- We need to THINK more about what we already have and be grateful for it. Over 2 billion fellow human beings live on less than £1.00 per day. In the UK, we whinge on about £30.00 per day.
- We need to THINK less about our own "happiness" and more on creating a sense of well-being within our communities -including family, friendships, neighbourhoods and workplaces.
Thank you. I wish you all a thoughtful New Year.
Roger Steare
