The Power Of The Picture

I saw some button badges in town the other day
and was instantly transported to a distant time and place.

My childhood had rushed forward to meet me, plonking a huge smile on my face. Why? The badges contained those oh so familiar book cover illustrations by ladybird. 'The Elves & the Shoemaker', 'Cinderella', 'Beauty & the Beast'.

It made me stop and think. The badges featured less than a quarter of the overall illustration, yet the images were so powerful, in their initial execution and in the emotional connection I had with them, that even the merest hint of colour and form was instantly recognisable.

I thought, "if this can do it for me, on a 1 inch circular piece of metal, could I do it for my clients?"

I'm striving for the powerful and Iconic in my pictures.
