The thrill of the moment: part i

by Gareth Buddo, in Photography

People ask me what it is about photography that captivates me.

The Thrill of the moment, part IIt’s complicated.  There’s the light, the composition, as much about what you leave out as what you include, the colour…or lack of it!?  BUT when I’m shooting ‘live’ subjects (I’ll leave that to your own imagination) it’s the thrill of capturing the moment… and the possibility of missing it.

Each moment is fleeting, precious, unrepeatable, unforgettable… and at the same time instantly forgettable.

I know when I’ve missed it.  I mourn for that split second, unrecorded, lost forever, my eye is back to the viewfinder, click - got it!  For every shot taken there’s the one that got away.

The great photos, for me, are the 'capturing the moment' ones (as you put it). The skill in framing an effective shot in a fraction of a second always captivates me
